Virtual Community Of Practice (VCoP) Session 1: Support Strategies For Individuals With The Most Significant DisabilitiesEducational practitioners have the honor of working with individuals with disabilities, connecting them with jobs that allow them to unleash their full potential. This population comes with many unique needs and strengths. Sometimes these needs, especially those with the most significant disabilities, call into question for even the best educational practitioners if there is a way to move forward. This session will focus specifically on those with the most significant disabilities, their unique challenges, and providing concrete tools for special educators to properly support students with the utmost need as they pursue and obtain competitive, integrated employment.
After this session, participants:
1. Will understand the four R's regarding how to support those with the most need in gaining employment
2. Will learn strategies to stratify and scaffold prompting and support to avoid prompt dependency and develop independence in those served
3. Will learn alternative ways to identify choices and preferences of those who struggle to communicate verbally
4. Will learn about vocational profiles and other available free resources to fill the participant's toolbox
This training currently is ONLY open to NJ school staff.
Certificates: Certificates of Attendance with training title and duration will be provided.
