Lived Experiences Of Loss And Grief: Similarities And Differences Between People With I/DD And The General PopulationThis training will explore similarities and differences in how loss and its accompanying grief is experienced between the general population and people with I/DD, with a concentration on the observable, behavioral expressions of grief often manifested by people with I/DD because of cumulative and often unacknowledged losses over time. Participants will consider their own loss journeys to better understand the journeys of those they love and/or support who have I/DD and will explore strategies for such things as recognizing signs of complicated/complex grief, communicating about loss and death, providing for choice and inclusion in rituals, and providing support to people by helping them memorialize past loss in meaningful ways. Information will be shared, issues will be discussed, strategies will be reviewed, and resources made available.
Note: This training currently is ONLY open to employees of New Jersey DDD, DDD/Medicaid Approved Providers, and individuals with disabilities and family members.
To meet the training needs of the entire state, there is a limit of participants per agency for this course.
Certificates: Certificates of Attendance with training title and duration will be provided.
