Employment Specialist Supplemental: Calling The Shots: Advocacy And Employment

Now more than ever, strong advocacy is needed to influence disability employment outcomes at every level. Individuals on the job need to feel empowered to request accommodation and speak up for what they need, want, and deserve. This self-advocacy is needed on the job to access their rights as employees protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act. But the self-advocacy doesn’t end there! Shared lived experiences, the challenges, and success stories are all absolutely critical to making change in disability policies. While it is imperative for advocates, families, and professionals to engage in persuasive, effective advocacy, many do not know where to even begin. This session will focus on individuals’ workplace rights, the application of self-advocacy in the workplace, and further opportunities to apply their lived experience as testimony.  

 

Note: This training currently is ONLY open to employees of New Jersey CBVI, DDD, and DVRS, DDD/Medicaid Approved Providers, DVRS approved vendors, and individuals with disabilities and family members.

 

For engagement and active participation in the training, you must use a device with working camera.  It is strongly recommended that you use a computer or a laptop with a strong WiFi connection.  Phones and mobile devices are discouraged due to connectivity issues

 

To meet the training needs of the entire state, there is a limit of participants per agency for this training.

 

Certificates: Certificates of Attendance with training title and duration will be provided.
