Autism And Anxiety: Treatment Recommendations Based On Neurological ResearchResearch has demonstrated a high rate of co-occurring Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and anxiety disorders. A variety of clinical and behavior support strategies have been developed based on the traditional theories of social/emotional development within ASD. This session will provide an overview of recent brain research that has discovered a pattern of brain waves associated with anxiety, that are triggered by classic social demands, such as making eye contact. Based on this review, potential changes in the manner of clinical intervention that should be considered, along with behavior modification and support strategies will be discussed.
