Virtual Community Of Practice (VoCP) Session 4: Strategic CBI Planning On A Limited Budget

Although CBI is an instructional strategy and funding is to be provided by the school district to support instruction in community settings, we recognize that available budgets are often lower than what programs truly need. This session focuses on realistic, sustainable approaches that help teams continue delivering meaningful instruction even when resources are limited.

Participants will explore how effective CBI can occur in free or low-cost public spaces without relying on expensive purchases. The session will highlight everyday community environments that naturally support instruction in community living, recreation and leisure, career awareness, and daily living skills.

Through guided discussion and collaborative idea sharing, practitioners will exchange successful approaches, identify underused local resources, and leave with adaptable tools that can be customized for use with students. This session emphasizes intentional skill instruction, peer learning, and practical planning so that CBI remains accessible, equitable, and sustainable for all programs regardless of budget constraints.

Note: This training currently is ONLY open to NJ school staff.

Certificates: Certificates of Attendance with training title and duration will be provided.

Continuing Education Credit: NJDOE Professional Development Hours.
